Wisps of Time
South Bay Jams brings summer house vibes to latest EP on his Universo Positivo label The long-time scene architect offers up four fresh grooves as his purple patch continues South Bay Jams is an alias of Joseph Salvador, who started promoting in his local Amsterdam in the 90s and has run various recording studios and several labels since. Next to TINK! Records, Universo Positivo is his latest and this EP taps into the sunny vibes of Lisbon, where he is currently based. His recent releases have had high-profile support from in-the-know deep house tastemakers like DJ Deep, Glenn Underground and Jimpster, and once again here he deals in rich detail and quality production that transcends scenes, styles and eras.
Title cut 'Wisps of Time' opens with a cosmic synth cascade before big rubbery kicks and bass settle you into a heartwarming sound with wispy flute motifs and smoky spoken words. It's pure house vibes with a timeless vocal pull.
'Musique' channels house greats like Kerri Chandler in its punchy drums and heartfelt sax notes overflowing with emotions. Silky chords are draped over the smooth grooves and another expert vocal sample adds an irresistible hook.
There is a playful spirit in 'Morning Star' with its prickly acid weaving in and out of buoyant drums, new age whispers and classic piano chords - its grown-up house for colourful dance floors.
Things get deep and perfectly swung on close 'Housewerk' with golden, soft focus chords, dusty drum shuffle and an aching vocal stab all tapping into true house heritage. Wisps of Time is another warm, assured EP with South Bay Jams leaning into sunlit textures and classic house sensibilities with plenty of sophistication.
