MDA Grooves continues his hot streak with trio of Latin and Afro house heaters. MDA Grooves is an enigmatic alias for an artist who has been prolific already in 2025. His steady stream of high-quality sounds has come on his Universo Positivo label and continues to blend global grooves with hints of afro, salsa, cumbia and disco. Each track deals in rich musicality, real instrumentation, live percussion and a mix of synths, samplers and drum machines that sound brilliantly alive and authentic. His latest three-tracker continues on this theme with more sun-baked beats and spiritual melodies.
The title of this EP comes from 'Liamba', a Portuguese word for weed of Angolan origin, while opener 'Muamba' has the same roots and means two things: a trunk for transporting illegal goods, but also a national gastronomy dish. It unfolds with a loose-limbed groove, deep bubbling bass and delicate chants all framed by distant synths that evoke bird calls from a hidden jungle. It’s slow-motion hypnosis, crowned by a majestic, soaring flute lead.
The wonderful 'Gazelle' stands taller, draping heart-wrenching chords over spritely Afro-beat rhythms with impassioned vocals and urgent chants lifting the spirit skyward. Shimmering acoustic guitars also spill into the night air and make this as moving emotionally as it is physically.
'I Want You' closes the journey with deft, tactile drums and suspended pads infused with rousing tones and blues-tinged riffs - a sophisticated soundtrack for intimate, late-night dance-floor bliss.
