MDA Grooves collides House, Latin and Afro influences on superb new Songs of Alkebulan EP for Universo Positivo.

Two originals and two versions offer sophisticated grooves for both day and night MDA Grooves is a core part of the vital Universo Positivo label and is renowned for bringing fresh twists to Latin house. He draws on myriad reference points from Afro house to salsa, cumbia to disco and next to solo hits like 'One Good Day' and 'Batucada Lounge' he has also worked with Latin greats like Brazilian singer Lilian Vieira and Ghanaian highlife star ‘Sloopy’ Mike Gyamfi. As well as using an array of samplers, synths and drum machines to cook up his musical sounds, he also layers in live instrumentation to help capture the true essence of Latin music. Hot on the heels of his last outing on this label, 'Sabrosa,' he now comes through with another authentic and rich fusion of sounds with this latest EP.

Cultured opener 'I Am Because We Are (Night Mix)' is a shimmering slice of late-night organic warmth with tender African vocals. The Afro tinged rhythms roll deep with cosmic guitar riffs and playful melodies ring out of the mix to cast a spiritual spell. 'I Am Because We Are (Day Mix)' reworks the tune with a more airy and sunny disposition and brighter grooves for outdoor dancing under a hot sun. 'Roots in The Sky' also comes in two versions. The 'Moon Mix' is a supple and rubbery Afro house bubbler with deep sub bass and emotive guitar lines that ring out with heart-aching realness under tropical percussion. The 'Sun Mix' layers in a rapped vocal that brings a late-night edge with sharper drums and raw horn stabs designed to electrify the club. MDA Grooves sits right at the vanguard of Afro Latin house and proves it again with this superb SONGS OF ALKEBULAN EP.
